This 1988 Ricardo Sanchis 1a-N is a beautiful Spanish-made Flamenco Negra guitar from one of Valencia’s most respected guitar-making families. Built with a solid spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, Spanish cedar neck, and ebony fingerboard, this instrument bridges both worlds beautifully. It has the quick attack, snap, and responsiveness expected from a flamenco build, while the Brazilian rosewood adds the warmth, depth, projection, and tonal complexity often associated with high quality classical guitars.

The 1a-N designation is an important one in the flamenco world, referring to a first-class Negra model. This gives the guitar a broader musical range than a traditional Blanca, making it well suited for players who want an instrument that can handle flamenco technique while also offering the sustain, colour, and richness needed for classical repertoire.

Ricardo Sanchis Carpio was a third-generation Valencian luthier, born in 1937, who made his first guitar in 1950. He later took over the family firm originally founded by his grandfather, Ricardo Sanchis Nacher, in 1915. Under his direction, the workshop earned an international reputation for high quality classical and flamenco guitars, with family roots connected to the traditions of Domingo Esteso and the Hermanos Conde.

Sanchis guitars are especially well regarded for their lively response, authentic Spanish character, and excellent craftsmanship. This 1988 1a-N is a wonderful opportunity to own a Spanish-built Flamenco Negra featuring highly desirable Brazilian rosewood, hand carved Fustero tuners, and the kind of character that comes from a respected family workshop with over a century of guitar-making history. It includes a hardshell case.
