Up for grabs is an absolute killer of an early-80s player: an all-original-spec 1983 Gibson Les Paul Custom in vibrant Cherry Sunburst.

Dating to March 29, 1983 out of Nashville, this thing sits right in that prime transitional sweet spot. You get the solid, non-pancake 1-piece mahogany body paired with the rigid 3-piece maple neck, carved 3-piece maple top, and the classic wide cutaway swoop binding.

It is loaded with its factory-original, untouched Tim Shaw PAFs, and they sound downright incredible. Stamped Pat. No. baseplates with matching March 1983 ink date stamps intact. Readings are right in the Shaw golden zone at 7.36k in the neck and 7.44k in the bridge. Open, woody, articulate, and bite for days. The entire harness is factory original with the aluminum shielding can and early-’83 CTS pots and ceramic discs.

This instrument had a professional refret with Dunlop 6100 jumbo wire in the past, and the luthier did it the right way. Nibs preserved! Nut is also non original but well cut and looks appropriate. It measures 1-11/16". The truss rod turns smooth as butter both ways, and the neck is dead straight with zero twist.

Cosmetically, the guitar is in fantastic shape for being over 40 years old, showing honest, light player wear. The gold hardware (original Schaller-made wide Nashville bridge, stopbar, Gibson flip-out winder tuners, and chevron Posi-Lok strap buttons) has that sweet, natural age tarnishing you want to see. The only real cosmetic note is typical finish wear near the neck binding edge (most visibly on the treble side around frets 3 to 5) where decades of hand friction separated lacquer from maple. It is totally smooth to the touch, stable, and purely cosmetic.

Comes complete in its original Gen 2 Gibson "Chainsaw" Protector case with the red plush interior and all 3 original red plastic latches fully intact.
